Numbers are a huge part of what God is about. Biblical numbers are more than just a way to categorize scripture or count sheep. Numbers have practical and prophetic meanings and God uses them over and over again to speak to us.
Biblical numerology is the study of numbers and their meanings to Christians. This study reveals so many distinct and fascinating things about God. AND it helps us understand how He is speaking to us and communicating to us through scripture, the Holy Spirit and life.
When it comes to the end times there are several numbers that have extreme importance.
Here is a look at numbers that are important.
In end-times (eschatological) theology, several numbers hold symbolic and prophetic significance. Here are some of the most important ones:
1. Seven (7) – Completion & Perfection
- The number 7 represents divine completeness and perfection.
- In Revelation, there are seven churches, seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven bowls of wrath (Revelation 1:4, 5:1, 8:6, 16:1).
- God created the world in seven days, symbolizing the completion of His work.

2. Twelve (12) – God's People & Authority
- Represents God’s order and governance, often connected to the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles (Revelation 21:12-14).
- The New Jerusalem has twelve gates, twelve foundations, and measures 12,000 stadia (Revelation 21:16-21).
3. Forty-two (42) – Tribulation & Judgment
- The Great Tribulation lasts 42 months (3.5 years) (Revelation 11:2, 13:5).
- The two witnesses prophesy for 1,260 days (42 months, or 3.5 years) (Revelation 11:3).
4. One Thousand (1,000) – A Long Period or Millennial Reign
- Satan is bound for 1,000 years (Revelation 20:2-3).
- The Millennial Kingdom lasts 1,000 years, symbolizing a reign of peace before the final judgment (Revelation 20:4-6).
5. Six (6) – Imperfection & Humanity
- The number of man (created on the sixth day – Genesis 1:27-31).
- In contrast to God’s perfect 7, six falls short, representing weakness or incompleteness.

7. Three and a Half (3.5) – A Broken Seven, Tribulation
- Often symbolizes persecution and trial, as it is half of seven.
- The ministry of the two witnesses lasts 3.5 years (Revelation 11:3).
- The reign of the beast lasts 3.5 years (42 months) (Revelation 13:5).
8. Ten (10) – Law & Judgment
- Represents fullness or completeness of judgment.
